Billie Eilish is in talks to make her feature film acting debut in a new adaptation of The Bell Jar. The project would bring the singer into a leading movie role for the first time, adding a new chapter to a career already shaped by music, touring, and selective screen appearances.
The film is expected to center on Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel, a landmark work that follows a young woman’s growing emotional struggle as she tries to find her place in the world. Sarah Polley is attached to write and direct, giving the production a filmmaker known for character-driven stories and careful handling of difficult material.
For Eilish, the move would mark a notable step beyond music videos, documentaries, and television work. While she has appeared on screen before, this would be her first major role in a feature-length narrative film.
The Bell Jar has drawn interest from filmmakers for years, but earlier adaptation efforts never fully came together. This version now appears to have fresh momentum as development moves forward.
